Weight Sets or Acuity Sets
Note: Weight refers to the factor that modifies the volume number. In health care operations, weight is often referred to as acuity, which is the level of care needed by patients in different areas. The definition defined in the Workload system setting site.workload.configurableterms.weight changes the wording of the link label (for example Acuity Sets or Weight Sets) in Administration > Application Setup > Staffing Setup, and some of the option names in the configuration.
Weight sets, or acuity sets, increase the volume numbers by a weighting factor. Weight sets, or acuity sets, increase volumes for locations or jobs that require more labor. If a weight set, or acuity set, adjusts a volume, the volume is called a weighted volume.
To generate workload, the staffing matrix matches weighted volumes to staffing settings, then generates the workload requirement. If based on the budgeted volume, this workload requirement becomes the baseline staffing plan for the selected location and time period. If based on the projected volume, this workload requirement becomes the adjusted staffing plan.
Create, edit, or delete a weight set or acuity set
- From the Main Menu, select Administration > Application Setup > Staffing Setup > Weight Sets or Acuity Sets.
Note: You can adjust the display of existing weight sets or acuity sets by entering part of a Name (with a wild card to represent the rest of the name) and clicking Apply.
- Create a New weight set or acuity set, filling in all required fields or select an existing weight set or acuity set, and click Duplicate or Edit.
Note: If a weight set or acuity set is already assigned to a location, it cannot be edited or deleted. To unassign, select the Assign to Location link for that weight set or acuity set, navigate through the locations to find the assigned location or locations, and clear any selected checkbox. If a weight set or acuity set is used in the Workload Planner, you must first delete the weight set or acuity set calculation before you can delete the weight set or acuity set. In the Workload Planner, for each location where the weight set or acuity set is assigned, select the location and then click Yes in the Warning message asking if you want to delete the invalid data.
- Enter or modify the Name, and optionally, a Description.
- To specify the weighting type, from the Configuration drop-down list, select one of the following:
- Weight per Location or Acuity per Location — Applies the weighting calculation factor to all the volume values at the specified location.
- Volume per Weight Level or Volume per Acuity Level — Applies the weighting calculation factor to the volume at each weight level individually.
- To specify the Weighting Calculation method, select one of the following:
- [Volume] X [Value] — Multiplies the volume by the value you specify
- [Volume] + [Value] — Adds the value you specify to the volume
- Enter the Name of a weighting level and a corresponding value to apply to the volume at that level, according to the Configuration and Weighting Calculation selections you made.
- Click Insert new row
or Delete this row to add or remove as many weighting levels as desired. - Click Save & Return or click Save and Set Location and specify a date to show only locations active as of that date.
